Episode Overview
In 1812 Portugal, the Spanish village of Adrados is overrun by deserters from the French, Spanish, and British armies, who hold two Englishwomen—Sarah Dubreton and Lady Isabella Farthingdale—hostage. Captain Sharpe is ordered to deliver the ransom, much to the outrage of Sir Augustus Farthingdale. Entering the convent where the women are imprisoned, Sharpe and Harper face two French officers. Sharpe discovers one is Sarah’s husband, and they share the same mission. To his horror, Hakeswill has raised the ransom, giving Sharpe five days to find more money or the women will be raped. Meanwhile, Nairn learns the French plan to invade Portugal from Adrados and decides to stop them. Promoted to major, Sharpe takes command of the 60th Rifles to rescue the women and hold the town.
