Plants Behaving Badly (2017)

Episode Overview

Darwin’s groundbreaking work, ‘On the Origin of Species,’ revolutionized scientific thought, but his subsequent exploration of orchids further solidified his ideas. These stunning flowers can be found soaring high in misty rainforests or lining bustling urban streets. Their captivating blooms are designed for one main objective: attracting pollinators. Some orchids cleverly imitate female bees or wasps to entice their mates. Each orchid produces countless minuscule seeds that lack nutritional reserves, necessitating the aid of specific soil fungi for germination. Historically, this made seed cultivation challenging, but modern technology has changed that, allowing even the rarest species to be secretly reintroduced to their former habitats, reminiscent of a thrilling espionage operation.
